Barbie Ferreira is graduating early: the actor has announced that she will not be returning to HBO's salacious, sex-and-drugs glorifying teen drama Euphoria ahead of the show's third season.

Ferreira announced her departure via Instagram Stories yesterday (August 24), sharing art by former co-star Hunter Schafer and writing:

After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character Kat, I'm having to say a very teary-eyed goodbye. I hope many of you could see yourself in her like I did and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today. I put all my care and love into her and I hope you guys could feel it. Love you Katherine Hernandez.

Ferreira's character became a fan favourite in Season 1 of the series, but was fairly well sidelined in its Emmy-nominated second season. Rumours have swirled regarding bad blood between the actor and showrunner Sam Levinson — which Ferreira has denied.

She reportedly walked off set on at least two occasions because she disagreed with the direction of her character's storyline, resulting in Levinson making dramatic cuts to her lines, as per The Daily Beast. The publication likewise claimed that the actor injured herself while filming the sophomore season's infamous hot tub scene, which HBO refuted in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

Ferreira also didn't attend the premiere for Euphoria's second season, adding to the speculation.
