The Season 3 trailer for Aziz Ansari's Master of None has just arrived courtesy of Netflix. The show is now scheduled to return to the streamer on May 23, but the series star is notably absent from the clip.
In the first glimpse of the series' return following Ansari's 2018 sexual misconduct scandal, his co-star Lena Waithe takes centre stage as the show's Denise, alongside her partner Alicia (played by Naomi Ackie).
Ansari has apparently adopted a behind-the-scenes role in the series, scripting and directing alongside Waithe for Season 3 while Denise's romantic subplot plays out.
According to a synopsis, Season 3 of Master of None will take the form of "a modern love story that intimately illustrates the ups and downs of marriage, struggles with fertility, and personal growth both together and apart. Fleeting romantic highs meet crushing personal losses while existential questions of love and living are raised."
For the time being, it remains unclear if Ansari's character will play a prominent role in the new season, though if you look closely, he does appear for a fraction of a second in the new trailer. That aside, the focus on Waithe's character does look intriguing.
