Drummer Ray Luzier is the third member of Korn to test positive for COVID-19 amid an extensive US tour with System of a Down, which finishes up next week. The nu-metal group just can't seem to catch a break.
"Unfortunately, Ray has tested positive for COVID, and he will not be playing the next three shows in Vegas, Fresno and Oakland," the band wrote in a statement posted to Twitter.
They continued: "Korn will be continuing on as scheduled despite these circumstances. We are anticipating a quick recovery for Ray and he should be back to play the Los Angeles shows with us," referring to the back-to-back performances due to take place at Banc of California Stadium on October 22 and 23.
The band added that Aric Improta — the drummer for Inglewood rock outfit Fever 333 — will be filling in behind the kit for Luzier in the meantime.
Guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer was diagnosed last month, while frontman Jonathan Davis tested positive for the virus back in August — and has been struggling with the after-effects, getting oxygen onstage and performing from a throne.
Korn has not escaped their first pandemic stint on the road unscathed; replacement bassist Ra Diaz and guitarist Brian "Head" Welch are now the only members of their touring lineup that haven't contracted COVID-19.
They seem determined to finish this run of shows no matter the cost, illustrating the precarious position touring musicians are in: weighing the risks of playing live again — their main source of income — as the pandemic rages on.
