After testing positive for COVID-19 earlier this month, Korn frontman Jonathan Davis made his return to the stage 11 days later in Tinley Park, IL, on Friday (August 27) after six postponements and two outright-cancellations. As seen in fan footage of the concert, he performed with the help of an oxygen tank and a throne fit for a king.
"I'm fucking feeling very weak," Davis told the crowd [via TMZ], "but I fucking refuse to fucking cancel!" The frontman was obviously resistant to reschedule more dates of the band's current US tour with Staind, especially after so many months of being unable to tour. While making a valiant effort, he looks at pains to be performing — taking hits from an oxygen mask, sitting down for much of the set and even coughing pretty severely in some clips.
Meanwhile, guitarist Brian "Head" Welch opened up about his bandmate's condition in an Instagram video, saying:
Jonathan Davis is still struggling with the COVID after-effects. He's physically weak and having a mental battle. And any type of love, light and energy you can throw at him — prayers, all of it. We have shows coming up, so all of you guys, check the dates. Whatever show you're going to, throw him some love and energy, man — he needs you more than ever.
While it's genuinely difficult to watch Davis visibly struggling, it's also concerning to think of him potentially transmitting the virus to audience members or his touring crew... and let's not even start on the Monster Energy Drink-branded sweatband. We're wishing him a full recovery and hope the band won't hesitate to reschedule more tour dates as needed.
