Though he's best known for his 1977 hit "(I'd Go the) Whole Wide World," British new wave rocker Wreckless Eric has led a long, deep and varied career. And he's hardly slowing down: Later this year, he'll return with a brand new LP.
The release is called amERICa, named for the country he's called home since 2011. It features 11 new songs, and marks his sixth full-length solo album as Wreckless Eric (outside of that name, he's had a packed career full of collaborations and side projects).
As Brooklyn Vegan reports, Eric offered up the following statement about the LP:
I've been touring the U.S. since 1978 so moving here wasn't a complete culture shock. I've driven from Rhode Island to San Francisco, Minnesota to the Gulf Of Mexico. I keep rolling along and sometimes the sunrises and sunsets are glorious and I get to thinking about things like where have I been, and how the hell did I wind up here? Some of the songs are quite reflective - the idea of dying one day becomes alarmingly real. I'm quite accepting of it - maybe I've got twenty years left if I'm lucky. Ten more albums.... I've been through some tough shit at various times in my life. I survived. I'm lucky, I have a great life.
amERICa will arrive on November 13, and can be pre-ordered at Wreckless Eric's Bandcamp page. You'll also find a stream of its lead single and opening track "Several Shades of Green" below.
