Toronto's Witch Prophet has announced plans for her new record, Gateway Experience. It's out May 3 via Heart Lake Records.
Produced by her musical partner and wife SUN SUN, the record is said to explore the artist's symptoms with Temporal Lobe Epilepsy: "Gateway Experience is an album focused on the connection with the human brain, seizures, god and otherworldly abilities," the artist explained in a statement.
Gateway Experience features contributions by Winnipeg's Begonia, as well as Zaki Ibrahim, SATE and DillanPonders, the latter of whom appears on lead single "Energy Vampire," which arrives today.
"The song is based on and named after the beings in my nightmares," Witch Prophet said of the song. "I started logging my dreams and noticed anytime I would have a nightmare with these 'Energy Vampires' the next morning I would suffer from a seizure. I wrote this song as a way to feel some sort of control over my life and my health."
The track comes loaded with its own video directed by FROCASSO, who was responsible for the Polaris Prize- and CBC Music-backed project "DNA Activation Short Film."
