Like Radiohead and Nirvana before them, Weezer have become the latest '90s alternative band to have their music turned into a moody remix for a trailer.
"Island in the Sun" got the spooky treatment courtesy of Fox's Rescue: Hi-Surf, which premieres in September and follows the evidently very dramatic lives of lifeguards in Hawaii.
In the trailer, shared by X (formerly Twitter) user @JimJarmuschHair (who is the co-host of the podcast The Weezer Bracket), lifeguards get crushed by huge waves, carry people in on stretchers, and generally have a glamorous and sexy time. Opening with ominous swells of noise and eerie piano plinks, we soon hear Rivers Cuomo's voice singing "Island in the Sun" through a cloud of reverb. We then hear a few seconds of an acoustic rendition in the final seconds.
Watch it below. Rescue: Hi-Surf premieres September 22. Time will tell if it turns "Island in the Sun" into a hit among younger audiences, like The Batman did for Nirvana's "Something in the Way."
