The Weeknd used to operate under a shroud of mystery, but unfortunately his shadowy persona isn't able to protect the Toronto noir&B star from the long arm of the law. The singer also known as Abel Tesfaye was arrested this past Saturday (January 10) after allegedly punching a police officer in Las Vegas.

According to TMZ, the incident occurred when a fight involving the singer broke out inside the Cromwell Hotel at around 4:20 in the morning local time. Police attempted to break up the altercation, and in the process, Tesfaye was pulled into an elevator. He then reportedly punched the cop in the head.

This led to the vocalist being taken to jail for battery of a protected person. That's his rather stark-looking mug shot above.

Luckily, he wasn't held for long — later that same day, he posted an image on Instagram showing him boarding a plane with the caption "escaped from Las Vegas." He has since shared a couple of photos from the studio, showing that he's back to work.

Earlier today (January 12), the Weeknd and Ariana Grande unveiled an acoustic version of their hit duet "Love Me Harder." Watch the clip for this stripped-down rendition below.
