The White Stripes' early aughts classic Elephant turns 20 this year, and the band have now announced plans for a companion to their 2003 album. Elephant XX will be Third Man Records' latest package for its Vault subscription service.
Elephant XX includes a mono remix of the album (on red and white LPs), a red glitter 7-inch with White's solo demos for "Hypnotize" (backed with an original first take of "You've Got Her in Your Pocket"), a DVD with footage from the era, and a 28-page photo booklet. It's all housed in a nifty slipcase.
The new mono mix of the album was made directly from the multitrack tapes, with mixing by Jack White and Bill Skibbe using the exact same board that was used for the album's original stereo mix. It contains various pieces not heard on the original album, including four extra bars at the end of "Seven Nation Army" and that notably missing lyric from "Girl You Have No Faith in Medicine."
The Elephant Era Video Artifacts DVD includes live performances, footage of the White Stripes and Holly Golightly recording "It's True That We Love One Another," and behind-the-scenes footage from the making of the video for "The Hardest Button to Button."
For those not already signed up for the Third Man Vault, the deadline to register for Elephant XX is January 31. Signup is available here.
