The superstar born Abel Tesfaye has now made his 2011 mixtape Thursday available on streaming platforms to celebrate its 10th anniversary. This comes after reportedly being featured on Kanye's West DONDA — whenever that's actually released — and Belly's See You Next Wednesday, as well as having dropped new single "Take My Breath" earlier this month.
The musician shared the news in a balloon-filled Instagram story; he had initially released the tape 10 years ago today as a free download from his website. The only single released from Thursday was "The Zone," which features Drake. The Weeknd recorded multiple features on his fellow Torontonian's 2011 album Take Care — "Practice," "Shot for Me," "Cameras / Good Ones Go Interlude," "The Ride" and the co-write "Crew Love" — around the same time.
Speaking of balloons: Tesfaye celebrated House of Balloons turning 10 back in March of this year in a similar fashion, reissuing the mixtape on streaming services with its original mixes and samples. We can probably anticipate that he'll follow suit with the final instalment of the original Trilogy, which means we'll be able to stream the full version of Echoes of Silence come December 21.
While releasing three mixtapes may have made 2011 a banner year for the artist, his career has since careened to mainstream heights beyond what he probably thought unimaginable back then.
