The Weeknd's remarkable path from mysterious, arresting vocalist to worldwide pop power began 10 years ago this month with House of Balloons, and the artist has announced plans to reissue to formative effort to mark the anniversary.

On March 21 — a decade later to the day of its release — House of Balloons will arrive on all DSPs for the first time in its "purest and most powerful form." As the Weeknd himself explained on Twitter, that means "original mixes and samples" will be included.

Along with the digital release, House of Balloons will also be treated to an anniversary vinyl release of 1,000 copies, featuring a new interpretation of its cover art from Daniel Arsham.

The new vinyl edition will be part of a wider exclusive merch drop to mark the occasion, available to fans for 48 hours on March 21 through the Weeknd's website.

House of Balloons was the first in a Trilogy of 2011 releases by the Weeknd, preceding that year's Thursday and Echoes of Silence. It has since come to be widely regarded as one of the most influential R&B releases of the last decade.

Artists sampled across House of Balloons' nine tracks include Aaliyah, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Beach House and Cocteau Twins.

While he's officially done with the Grammys, the Weeknd leads all 2021 Juno Awards nominees with six nominations total.

Keep your eyes peeled for more from Exclaim! on the 10th anniversary of House of Balloons.
