The Flaming Lips have announced a vinyl component of their ongoing anniversary celebrations surrounding beloved 10th album, 2002's Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots.
The band's Hypnotist vinyl EP arrives June 16 via Rhino, bringing four tracks previously only available on the 6-CD Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots 20th anniversary box set to the format for the first time.
As you might have gleaned from the title, the highlight is the 24-minute "Psychedelic Hypnotist Daydream (Demo)," which has been given the entire first side of the EP.
Before the EP's arrival, you can hear the song in its entirety below, ahead of watching Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne revisit the cassette that "Psychedelic Hypnotist Daydream (Demo)" came from using a four-track recorder.
Hypnotist's B-side also packs in "Duck Dodgers Theme (Duck Dodgers Demo: With Wayne Scratch Vocal)," "I Know I've Got to Make That Dream the Real Thing (Demo)," and an instrumental version of "Do You Realize??"
Currently on tour playing Yoshimi in full, the Flaming Lips come to Canada later this summer as part of Osheaga 2023. The band's most recent album remains 2020's American Head.
