We first got word of new Sunset Rubdown material back in February after catching them live on tour in Ottawa late last year. Now, all that activity has amounted to a new record, titled Always Happy to Explode, arriving September 20 via Spencer Krug's label Pronounced Kroog, as well as some new tour dates.
Krug was joined by bandmates Camilla Wynne, Nick Merz and Jordan Robson-Cramer in Vancouver to record the album at Noise Floor with producer Jordan Koop. A preview comes today in the form of lead single "Reappearing Rat," which arrives alongside a video directed by Derek Janzen and starring Aaron Read.
Krug shared of the track in a statement: "A kind of irresponsible and lazy surrender to the notion that we're all just stuck with ourselves, this song is for those times you think 'Why won't that person just leave?' only to realize you're referring to yourself. For better or worse, we live in our brains. Apparently so does the rat."
The group have also mapped out a North American tour that includes dates in Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto. Check it all out below.
