Sumac

'The Deal' (album trailer)

Very little has been exposed behind Isis frontman and Baptists drummer Nick Yacyshyn's new Sumac project, at least sonically. Thankfully, with the band set to make their live debut Thursday night (December 4) in Vancouver, Sumac have now unveiled a vicious trailer behind their upcoming six-song debut, The Deal.

The minute-and-a-half long preview features a hypnotic hum of sustained six-strings before exploding into a juggernaut's stomp of crushed drums, detuned and devastating six-string riffs and guttural cries. Along with a few textured visuals, studio pics and a promo shot of the partnership, that's The Deal for now.

"It's a pretty dense, heavy experience and kind of out there, I'd say," Yacyshyn had previously told Exclaim! of the LP. "I've never been in a band that sounds like this. There's a lot of cool things going on that I wouldn't associate with other heavy music that I listen to — we didn't necessarily take other rock'n'roll bands as influences."

Sumac's first gig finds them opening up for Deafheaven at Vancouver's Rickshaw Theatre. The Deal will be delivered February 3 through Profound Lore/SIGE Records.
