SUMAC and Moor Mother Join Forces on Collaborative Album 'The Film'

Hear opening track "Scene 1"

American-Canadian metal trio SUMAC spent much of summer 2024 on the road behind 2024's year-end favourite The Healer, teaming up with poet/composer Moor Mother for a performance at Vancouver's Fortune Sound Club as part of the Vancouver International Jazz Festival along the way. They've now announced that they've teamed up again for a full-blown album titled The Film, arriving April 25 on Thrill Jockey.

Recorded at Studio Litho with engineer/mixer Scott Evans, the album is said to draw on SUMAC's "more strained, airier moments as well as their more improvisational aspects; the stark, industrial entrancing rhythms and chaos are amplified with radio-signal static and washy swells."

That much is apparent in lead/opening single "Scene 1," which drones beneath Moor Mother's meandering, gasping, desperate proclamations. Hear that below, where you can also find the album's tracklist.

SUMAC and Moor Mother will team up for live performances of The Film this spring. So far, all dates are due to take place in Europe.

The Film:

1. Scene 1
2. Scene 2: The Run
3. Hard Truth
4. Scene 3
5. Scene 4
6. Camera
7. The Truth Is Out There
8. Scene 5: Breathing Fire
