Someone Recreated Red Hot Chili Peppers Albums Using 'Donkey Kong Country' Sounds

'Blood Sugar Sex Magic' and 'Californication' have gone SNES

For '90s kids who have already listened to those Radiohead covers in the style of N64, here's a new way to indulge your nostalgia for both alt-rock and vintage video games: someone has recreated the classic Red Hot Chili Peppers albums Blood Sugar Sex Magic and Californication entirely using sounds from the Donkey Kong Country games.

The albums were created by an artist named fxsnowy, who is listed as hailing from Miami, FL. He recreated 1999's Californication entirely using sounds from 1995's Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, while his version of 1991's Blood Sugar Sex Magik also used that game along with the prior Donkey Kong Country (1994) and Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! (1996). All of the games come from the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.

The SNES version of Californication was uploaded to YouTube in June, with BSSM following in September. Both albums were shared on Bandcamp in mid-September. Sadly, there's no Donkey Kong version of "The Great Apes" from last year's Unlimited Love.

fxsnowy has been remixing classic Nintendo sounds for at least a couple years, but these RHCP albums appear to be his first major project. Hear the very lovely albums below.
