Sleepy Gonzales have announced that their first project of the year is on the way. The Vancouver-based alt-rockers will share Mercy Kill on June 23 via Light Organ Records.
They preview the EP with the simultaneous release of lead singles "Skylight," which is accompanied by a music video, and "Freaking Out." The band said in a press release that the starkly different songs are designed to represent two halves of a whole.
"'Skylight' embodies light in a dark world and 'Freaking Out' is the evil inside us demanding validation," they said in a press release. "Maybe they balance each other out, or maybe one eventually destroys the other. That depends on you."
Mercy Kill follows their December project Slower Apocalypse, which reimagined select tracks from the band's debut album Slow Apocalypse. The EP was recorded on Vancouver Island with producer Colin Stewart and features songwriting from all four Sleepy Gonzales members.
