SILLY Reimagines Pop-Punk with Adventurous '0 Views'

It's the latest project from Josiah Hughes of Pre Nup and 'Blink-155'

Canadian pop-punk band Pre Nup have been quiet since 2018's very fun Oh Well, but now singer-guitarist Josiah Hughes has announced an album from a new project. SILLY's 0 Views will be out on September 6.

A press release describes the album as "pairing slow, melancholy guitar lines with hyperactive skate punk 'oompah' drums and arrangements," with reference points including Julie Doiron, Gob, the Microphones, MxPx, Modest Mouse's early Interstate 8 EP and blink-182's leaked Enema of the State demo.

Hughes (who, full disclosure, is a former Exclaim! editor, as well as the host of the now-retired Blink-155 podcast) brings this unlikely clash of compelling influences together in the title track "0 Views," which has received a lyric video. Somehow moving at double time and in slow motion at the same time, its ragged guitar strums and fragile pop-punk melodies are propelled by breakneck drums, culminating in an outro of backmasking and chopped-up vocals. It lays out the album's underground ethos for making art: "Only do it for yourself / Only do it without help."
