Sebastien Grainger et les Montagnes

Canadian Music Week Toronto ON, March 5 to 8

Ex-Death From Above 1979 member Grainger may be at the front of this new entity but he wouldn’t be able to make the waves he did at their first CMW set without the massive noisy movements his Mountains emitted. Fleshed out by Germans’ Leon Taheny, the band have strayed visibly from Grainger’s predecessor. With a structured, poppy, dance rock focus akin to the Strokes or the Libertines, and a handful of distorted post-rock ambiance slapped on top, Grainger and the Montagnes have mastered a sound entirely their own, entirely enjoyable, and entirely ready to be gobbled up by everyone.
