It's been a bad day for bassists. Following Paz Lenchantin's surprising departure from the Pixies, Rainbow Kitten Surprise have announced that they've also parted ways with their bassist, Charlie Holt.
Having been on a hiatus from performing live last summer, the band shared the news on Instagram today, writing, "Since our hiatus last summer due to [lead vocalist] Ela [Melo]'s mental health, each of us took the time to address ongoing issues in the band. After spending some time contemplating the future of RKS, we are excited to announce our return."
"On a heavier note, we must also announce the departure of our dear friend, Charlie Holt," RKS continued. "After a concerted effort to move forward together, Ela could not find a way to continue working with them...and the band seriously contemplated calling it quits. Charlie is one of a kind and will always be part of our legacy. They can't be replaced in anyone's hearts or minds."
The band added that they're particularly proud of the new material they'll be "dropping soon" because it represents the last work from Rainbow Kitten Surprise's original lineup.
Alongside a Laura Jane Grace quote, Holt added in a statement of their own, "I'm so thankful for every one of you and all the beautiful moments along the way. This family's imprint will last lifetimes. It feels impossible to put words to this, but I've been asked to leave the group. This is not the end of me making music, but I am accepting that this beautiful season has passed."
