Royal Tusk Announce New Album 'Altruistic,' Share Documentary

It's the follow-up to 2018's 'Tusk II'

Alberta hard rockers Royal Tusk have announced the release of their third album Altruistic, arriving on February 23 via MNRK. The announcement is accompanied by a half-hour long documentary Do No Wrong: The Making of Altruistic, as well the new single "Here On Out."

Featuring three tracks released earlier this year ("Relegate," "Head Up" and "All My Life"), the self-produced album arrives just over five years after the band's 2018 LP Tusk II. It took form during the pandemic, during which the trio — bandleader Daniel Carriere, guitarist Quinn Cyrankiewicz and bassist Sandy MacKinnon— settled into Alberta's Audio Department recording studio.

"We usually go out of town to record, but due to the pandemic we looked for a place locally," Carriere explained in a press release. However, during the production process, the vocalist faced an unexpected health complication after suffering from a blood clot in his lung, and ultimately spent a year in recovery.

"Sandy and Quinn helped me through the entire experience," Carriere said of his bandmates. "These songs were written prior to this life-changing event, but they still tell a story of struggle, suffering, uncertainty, courage, and watching your back. It's bizarre how that happened. When I think of them now, they definitely illustrate what we all went through."
