Rae Spoon has done a great deal to raise awareness about transgender issues in Canada and abroad, but the Montreal singer-songwriter has proven that our country has a long way to go following some particularly disappointing airline incidents.
Spoon identifies as agender, using the "they" and "them" pronouns. According to some tweets, however, Canadian airline WestJet has been less than accommodating. Citing Bill C-16, Spoon added that this could soon be a human rights issue.
WestJet responded to the tweets asking for more information. Here's hoping this is a teachable moment for the airline that will prevent more situations like this from arising in the future.

.@WestJet I am constantly being misgendered by your staff. It would be great to get some training for them on using gender neutral language

@WestJet Gender identity and presentation are being added to the charter of rights in Canada soon, so it will become a discrimination issue.
