They need no introduction, nor dust: alt-rock titans Pixies have confirmed details about their forthcoming new album.
The band's eighth studio album Doggerel is due September 30 via BMG. It follows their 2019 LP Beneath the Eyrie, as well as 2020's one-off "Hear Me Out."
This winter, Pixies decamped to Guilford Sound in Guilford, VE, to record the album, marking their first time in the studio together in two years. They teamed up with producer Tom Dalgety, who worked on both Beneath the Eyrie and 2016's Head Carrier.
"We're trying to do things that are very big and bold and orchestrated," bandleader Black Francis said of the new record in a statement. "The punky stuff, I really like playing it, but you just cannot artificially create that shit. There's another way to do this, there's other things we can do with this extra special energy that we're encountering."
Guitarist Joey Santiago added: "This time around, we have grown. We no longer have under two-minute songs. We have little breaks, more conventional arrangements, but still our twists in there."
The lead single is a spiky scorcher entitled "There's a Moon On." The band are slated to offer more tidbits about the album on Friday (June 10), with a special episode of their It's a Pixies Podcast about the making of Doggerel.
