Following the success of 2020's self-titled debut, Toronto five-piece Pantayo have announced the follow-up. Sophomore album Ang Pagdaloy is out June 9 through Telephone Explosion Records, and the single "One More Latch (Give It to 'Ya)" is streaming now.
The album was produced and engineered by alaska B of Yamantaka // Sonic Titan, and it continues Pantayo's combination of traditional kulintang music (reflective of the Filipino diaspora) with pop, R&B and electronic influences. Recording took place at PURE//LAND, ARC Recording Studio, Candle Recording Studio and Studio Z. Ang Pagdaloy translates as "the flow."
Those influences can be heard on the opening track and lead single, "One More Latch (Give It To 'Ya)." A press release states, "Pantayo's first single serves as a means to reclaim sexuality, desire, and intimacy from the clutch of patriarchal white supremacy and to explore the depths of those feelings, and the freedom to experience them, without the spectres of fetishization and objectification."
