Los Angeles-based producer Nosaj Thing released a full-length titled Fated last year, roping in a memorable guest appearance from Chance the Rapper on "Cold Stares." Now, the man born Jason Chung is ready to deliver his next project as Nosaj Thing, and he's announced a new EP.
No Reality is set to arrive on April 8 through Innovative Lesisure and features five tracks simply titled "N R" with a numerical identifier tacked on to the end. He's shared the first sampling of the new material, offering up the second track "N R 2."
The new songs hear the producer embracing a new approach. The subject matter is less introspective, focusing instead on the people in his life, while the music itself was laid down at a faster pace than Chung is used to working at.
"This record is for my friends and everyone that has been supporting me over the years," he explained in a statement. "Since I finished three albums that were more about my personal life, it was time to make something to give back. Most of these songs are new and were written within the last two months. I wrote one of the songs all on my iPad and arranged and mixed three of the songs the morning it was due to mastering — lots of quick changes and decisions were made. I'm not trying to over think these days and just find balance."
The new music will be accompanied by an audio-visual tour with visual artist Daito Manabe. The pair's previous collaborations have dabbled in augmented reality, 3D scanning and motion capture techniques, and the upcoming live show promises to deliver a "truly transportive" experience. There are currently no Canadian dates scheduled, but you can see the upcoming U.S. shows and a trailer for them below.
