Since Neil Young has no plans to tour anytime soon (i.e., until we "beat" COVID), he's found another way to keep fans satiated: the legendary singer-songwriter has released a documentary about the making of Barn — his 14th album with Crazy Horse.
Directed by Young's wife Daryl Hannah, A Band a Brotherhood a Barn captured the recording sessions for the 2021 album, which took place in — you guessed it — a barn (well, a restored 19th-century farm shed) located high in the mountains of Colorado last summer. The film was previously set to screen in theatres for one night only back in December, but is now streaming for all on YouTube.
The on-film process sees Young reunite with longtime bandmates Billy Talbot, Ralph Molina and Nils Lofgren, with single shots wherein the band records an entire song, illustrating their chemistry and the organicism of the track's final cut.
A Band a Brotherhood a Barn is available to stream on YouTube below, and Blu-ray copies are also available for purchase through Young's website.
Last year, the icon uncovered lost 1987 recordings with Summer Songs as part of his third Archives box set release, following The Archives: Vol. II: 1972-1976.
