Influential Texas emo band Mineral have announced that they will be breaking up after a final farewell performance at this year's edition of the Best Friends Forever Festival in Las Vegas, NV, in October.

"Over the years the band has come into and out of our lives in phases," lead singer Chris Simpson said in a statement to Pitchfork. "Lately we've been feeling like maybe it was done and had been adequately and organically wrapped up, but we're delighted for the opportunity to put a more thoughtful and intentional bow on what has been one of the more passionate and meaningful endeavours of our individual and collective lives."

Mineral formed in Houston, TX, in 1994, shortly before all four members relocated to Austin. They released their debut album, The Power of Failing, in 1997, with sophomore LP EndSerenading only seeing the light of day after they had broken up in 1998.

In 2014, Mineral announced a reunion tour and reissued their two albums with a compilation called The Complete Collection. The band celebrated their 25th anniversary in 2018, releasing their first new music in 20 years — "Aurora" and "Your Body Is the World" — in addition to publishing a book and making the rounds on tour before the pandemic threw a wrench in their plans. Their most recent show was at Birmingham, AL's Furnace Fest in 2021.

Best Friends Festival just announced its 2025 lineup today, which also features the likes of Rilo Kiley, Jawbreaker, Minus the Bear, Cursive and Superchunk.
