MICO Robbed of Gear Worth "Like $9,000" While on Tour in the US

MICO has been experiencing a lot of milestones lately, between his first North American tour and his first sold-out headlining show in the US. Oh, and his first time getting robbed.

After a warm welcome from sold-out crowds at his first two shows of the Fantasy Tour in L.A. and San Francisco, the Toronto-based singer-songwriter got a harsh reality check on Friday (September 22), when someone smashed the back window of his tour van and stole "like $9,000 worth of gear."

He took to social media over the weekend to share the news, tweeting a simple "we got robbed lol" before giving his fans a more in-depth look at the situation on Instagram.

The absurd extravagancy of Visa expenses for international musicians touring in the US is well documented — MICO revealed that the Fantasy Tour cost $60,000 — and most independent artists like him lack label funding, so that cost is all the more impactful. To get robbed just two shows into an 18-stop tour seems like a cruel joke.

But, the show goes on, and with several cities remaining in the West Coast leg of the tour — including Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton — the van got a tape job, and MICO hit the road once again.

After an outpouring of fan support, MICO says that the best way to help ensure he can continue to perform live moving forward is to attend the Fantasy Tour's remaining shows.

What's certain though, is that he won't be returning to San Francisco anytime soon.

"San Fran I love you," he wrote. "See you in 10 years when we can afford an actual tour bus."
