Michael Hix

"II"

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jun 8, 2015

Nashville-born, New York-based ambient musician Michael Hix is gearing up to release Aeon next week, but before the album lands, Exclaim! is pleased to premiere a composition titled "II."

Hix primarily took inspiration for Aeon from Super 8-esque films made by his wife, composing six separate cinematic-sounding movements, though, as a press release explains, his sound also draws from "classical minimalism, sacred music and late-Romantic styles."

As the title implies, "II" marks the second movement on the record — and it's an airy, dramatic number that begins with soft, twinkling synths and ethereal vocals, but ebbs and flows between a sweeping orchestral number and a soft synth-driven lullaby.

You can hear it for yourself by hitting play below. Aeon is out June 16 via Paper Garden Records, and you can pre-order it here.
