METZ Announce New Album 'Up on Gravity Hill,' Spring North American Tour

Hear two contrasting singles, "99" and "Entwined (Street Light Buzz)"

METZ are back! After celebrating the 10th anniversary of their self-titled debut in 2022, the beloved Toronto noise rockers have announced their first new album in four years, shared alongside two singles and a smattering of tour dates.

Engineered by Sam Manchester (Mdou Moctar, Lingua Ignota), Up on Gravity Hill arrives on April 12 via Sub Pop / Dine Alone. It's the follow-up to 2020's Atlas Vending and features guest appearances from Black Mountain's Amber Webber and Owen Pallett.

Press notes describes Up on Gravity Hill as not only the trio's most powerful record yet, but also their most beautiful — a duality they're already demonstrating with the two singles shared today, the foot-stoping "99" and dreamier, more melodic "Entwined (Street Light Buzz)."

“These two songs couldn't be more stylistically and thematically dissimilar," frontman Alex Edkins explained in a statement. "‘Entwined (Street Light Buzz)’ is a song about the deep connection humans can foster with one another and how we carry people with us forever, even after death. ‘99’ is about the scourge of corporate greed and bottom-line thinking that runs rampant in modern society. Anything for a buck is the message being sent to younger generations.”

METZ will hit the road with their new material starting with a North American run this spring, which includes Canadian stops in Montreal (May 16) and Toronto (May 17) as its penultimate and final dates.
