It's an Otaku Girl Summer

Not only is it a Brat summer, but it's also an "Otaku Girl" summer, too.

Megan Thee Stallion has never shied away from showing her love and appreciation for Japanese anime and manga, from dressing up as her favourite characters to bringing fans dressed in cosplay on stage during her 2024 Hot Girl Summer Tour. Yesterday (July 3), the rapper shared the music video for the seventh track on her album MEGAN, "Otaku Hot Girl," an ode to being both a hot girl and an otaku (a fan of Japanese anime, manga and video games).

The song begins with a voiceover featuring Adam McArthur, the English voice actor of Yuji Itadori, the protagonist of popular anime and manga series Jujutsu Kaisen. "I like a tall woman with a nice big ass. Just sayin'," McArthur says, "like Grammy winner Megan Thee Stallion."

The McArthur feature isn't the only anime reference in "Otaku Hot Girl" — the song also contains a sample from the Jujutsu Kaisen soundtrack. Megan also gives a shoutout to other characters from the series, including Satoru Gojo, as well as other popular anime characters Naruto and Sasuke from Naruto.

The music video shows the rapper enjoying her trip to Japan, which included going to Universal Studios, singing karaoke, meeting fans, dressing up in cosplay and shopping. It also features footage from when she presented at the 2024 Crunchyroll Anime Awards in Tokyo back in March.
