We already knew that Diplo's cartoon reggaeton group Major Lazer would be getting their own animated series, and now the show has a premiere date and a synopsis.
The first episode of the show will air on April 16 at midnight on FXX as part of the channel's Animation Domination block. Diplo himself serves as the co-creator and executive producer of the cartoon. Aziz Ansari and Adam Samberg will contribute, while guests will include Tiësto, RiFF RaFF and Trinidad James.
The show will air weekly, and each episode will hit iTunes and Hulu simultaneously.
A press release describes the series like this:
The reggae dancehall grooves of Major Lazer are just one of the highlights in Major Lazer. The animated series tells the story of a superhero named Major Lazer who, with the help of his two teenaged friends, Penny and BLKMRKT, fights against the villains that populate the futuristic dystopia that is Jamaica. A self-proclaimed "Guardian of the Groove," Major Lazer vows to fight for the rights of the Jamaican people and to bring down the ruthless curmudgeon, President Whitewall.
Below, watch the previously unveiled opening theme for the show, which appears to be titled simply Major Lazer.
Meanwhile, Major Lazer have a new album called Peace Is the Mission due out on June 1 through Mad Decent.
