It's a good time to be a fan of legendary shoegaze act Lush. The group recently reunited, making plans to perform on May 6 and 7 in London, England. Then they announced plans for a reissue box set. Now, they'll take things two steps further with the promise of two new releases.
A Reddit user [via Consequence of Sound] pointed out that the website for Academy, the venue hosting the band's London shows, reveals news of the new material.
First up, they're expected to release a new EP. The release doesn't have a title just yet, though it will feature four new songs and be self-released by the band.
Lush's Emma Anderson said, "I'm a bit anxious... wondering if people will think the new record will be as good as the old."
Former Lush bassist Phil King added, "I know I'm biased, but I work [in picture research] for a music magazine, and I heard music all day and so much sounds non-descript or derivative. But Emma just has this way of writing unusual chord changes that manage to weave lovely melodies over the top, and it immediately sounds like Lush."
The article also states that "there are plans further down the road" for Lush to record a full-length album. The band's last album was 1996's Lovelife.
Along with that upcoming box set, Lush's best-of set Ciao! will be pressed on double red vinyl for Record Store Day's Black Friday event (November 27). This will be the comp's first vinyl release. The box, titled Chorus, will be out on December 4 before arriving in North American stores on January 22 via 4AD.
