As previously reported, Lucero's upcoming 10th full-length album, All a Man Should Do, comes equipped with a handful of new songs and a Big Star cover. It's the latter that the band are premiering a couple weeks ahead of the record's September 18 street date via ATO/MapleMusic, and you can hear the rollicking redo of "I'm in Love with a Girl" online now.
So, what's new with the piece, you ask? Well, Lucero vocalist Ben Nichols gives the song a gravelier tone than Alex Chilton had.
The original's spare arrangement of vocals and acoustic guitar has also been beefed up a bit, with a full-band approach bringing in keyboards and electric guitars. This also includes drum work from founding Big Star member Jody Stephens, as well as flourishes from later-day collaborators Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow.
You'll find the generations-uniting revamp of the Big Star classic down below.
