Victoria, BC, duo Loving have announced their sophomore album Any Light, arriving on February 9 via Last Gang Records/MNRK. Loving have also shared the album's lead single, "Medicine," along with an accompanying music video.
"Medicine" is a lush, earthy and hushed track — the second single off the upcoming album after last month's "Blue" — that follows a friend of the band and their experience with psychedelics, according to a press release.
"This was playfully written as a chronicle of our friend's recent psychedelic adventures, he's the sort who is always looking for a cure," said songwriter and vocalist Jesse Henderson of the song.
The track fits right in with the rest of Any Light, which covers new territory through new instrumentation — the 10-track album explores love, depression, existential uncertainty, and "the psychic consequences of living in an increasingly digitized world," according to a press release.
"When I looked at all of these songs together, I realized that the concept of light was threaded throughout the album. For me, light signifies awareness or insight, which ties into how many of these songs document a shift in perspective," said Henderson.
Loving will also be embarking on an extensive North America tour this winter with support from Fog Lake, and will feature three Canadian stops. The tour is scheduled to begin in Seattle on February 23, before making its way to Montreal and Toronto on March 23 and 25, respectively. The band will eventually make their way back to the West Coast, finishing off in Vancouver in early April. Tickets are available for purchase this Friday, December 1.
