Loscil has announced a new two-part compilation bringing together original compositions for dance choreographers. Today, the Vancouver-based producer born Scott Morgan has shared The Sails p. 1, which you can hear in its entirety below.

In a note accompanying the compilation's first half, Morgan explains that the two releases collect music "written for dance projects over the last ~eight years," adding, "All of these compositions were commissioned specifically by the choreographers for their projects, many of which might not be performed again (and one that never did get staged)."

The nine tracks that form The Sails p. 1 were created to score work from choreographers James Gnam, Vanessa Goodman, Damien Jalet, Paolo Mangiola and Kathryn Rickets. Morgan shares that for the compilation, the material has been "edited and reworked ... for better sequencing and to breathe new life into the music."

The Sails p. 1 is also available for name your price download via Bandcamp, ahead of Part Two's arrival "within the coming months." Morgan shared on Twitter that the compilation's first volume will also get a wider release on DSPs.

Last year, Morgan delivered Clara, his thirteenth LP as Loscil which Exclaim! gave a 7/10 review.

Later on in 2021, he would deliver LUX Refractions, containing four longer form tracks derived from the same musical source as Clara: a recording of a three-minute composition performed by a 22-piece string orchestra in Budapest, Hungary.
