Toronto indie rock charmers Kiwi Jr. have announced their third full-length. Chopper is out August 12 through Sub Pop, and the single "Night Vision" is out now.
The album was produced by Dan Boecker (of Wolf Parade and Operators), marking his first official work as a producer and Kiwi Jr.'s first time working with an outside producer. Its 10 songs were recorded in late 2021 in Toronto, and Dorothea Paas contributed backing vocals.
Chopper is a slight sonic transformation for Kiwi Jr., who have swapped out the organic instruments of past albums for a more synth-heavy palette. That can be heard on "Night Vision," which puts a dreamier spin on the band's guitar-driven college rock sound.
The accompanying video, directed by Laura-Lynn Petrick, shows a man walking through Vancouver at night (and crossing paths with Kiwi Jr. in a bar). Watch it below.
