Kendrick Lamar and SZA became the centre of a lawsuit over their Black Panther-connected video for "All the Stars," with British-Liberian artist Lina Iris Viktor alleging her work was used without permission. Now, the parties have reportedly settled their legal dispute.
As Pitchfork reports, Lamar and SZA settled with Viktor as of December 21, according to court documents obtained by the publication. While further details of settlement are unclear, the case will now close with all claims being dismissed, according to Pitchfork.
As previously reported, Viktor claimed she was contacted by Marvel twice — once in November 2016 and once in December 2017 — about using her artwork in Ryan Coogler's Black Panther film. However, the artist claimed she denied their requests. Nevertheless, images resembling her work from a series of 24-karat gold paintings titled "Constellations" eventually appeared in the "All the Stars" video.
"Cultural appropriation is something that continually happens to African-American artists and I want to make a stand," Viktor said back in February.
