As Public Enemy have learned, relying on fundraising campaigns to release an album can be a dicey prospect. Katie Moore managed to pull it off, however. The Montreal songstress recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to manufacture her latest album and raised $4,546, far exceeding her $3,000 goal. Now, she's getting set to release the LP, Montebello, on February 1.
This will be Moore's first full-length since 2007. A press release describes the ten-song set as "Lying somewhere in the no man's land between folk, alt-country, bluegrass, and Americana." It also reportedly features "soul influences and lush instrumentation."
Take a listen to the twangy single "Wake Up Like This," which can be downloaded here.
The album was laid down over two years at Hotel2Tango and Treatment Room in Montreal. Moore's Kickstarter page says that it was "recorded and mixed with a coterie of friends in Montreal." There's no word as to exactly who will be appearing, but the musicians who have backed Moore in the past include Chilly Gonzales and members of Plants and Animals and Silver Mt. Zion.
Tour plans are still being finalized, but you can see a small handful of Quebec dates listed below.
