There's a whole lot of bad going on in the world, but one major bright spot has been the rapidly renewed interest in the music of Kate Bush — mostly just "Running Up That Hill," but still!
After appearing prominently in the new season of Netflix's blockbuster series Stranger Things, the 1985 Hounds of Love single climbed to No. 1 on the iTunes singles chart and No. 13 on Spotify's global daily chart.
And now, for the first time ever in Bush's career, she has a single in the Top 10 on the US singles chart. As Billboard notes, "Running Up That Hill" is currently sitting at No. 8 on the week's Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.
The song's previous peak — way back in 1985, where it was bested by Phil Collins and Marilyn Martin's "Separate Lives" and Starship's "We Built This City" — was at No. 30. That's a pretty major bump, and 37 years after its release no less.
Over the weekend, Bush shared one of her rare statements, commenting on how the show (which she's a fan of) was responsible for the song's sudden resurgence in popularity. "It's all really exciting! Thanks very much to everyone who has supported the song," she wrote. "I wait with bated breath for the rest of the series in July."
More Kate Bush is a necessity in dark times, so this is cause for celebration. And there's no better way to celebrate than to join everybody in revisiting "Running Up That Hill," which you can do below.
