Half-truth

'Half-truth' (EP stream)

Montreal DJ/producer Half-truth has made the rounds in his hometown at festivals like Piknic Electronik, MUTEK and Igloofest, but on his new EP he takes a conscious turn towards pop.

The self-titled EP kicks off with "Say It Again" — a take on all the clichés of saying that first "I love you." It was mixed in L.A. by Clint Gibbs, whose work with Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry has obviously honed a knack for polished pop songs. "Ticking Like a Bomb" does a complete 180, tackling the end of a romance with piano, sparse drums and layered vocals. The trio of new songs closes out with "Howling at the Moon," which tells the story of a kid who's been bullied too much.

The syrupy falsetto and upbeat synths definitely deliver the pop sensibilities that he was going for on the new EP. Half-truth will launch on October 4 with a hometown release party at Inspecteur Épingle. But you don't have to wait until then to hear it — give it an advanced listen in the player below.
