Foreign Diplomats

"Beni Oui Oui"

In the lead-up to their debut album Princess Flash, Montreal-based five-piece Foreign Diplomats have unveiled a new track titled "Beni Oui Oui" — and Exclaim! has got your first listen to it.

Produced by Brian Deck (Modest Mouse, the Shins), the song opens sparse and sentimental-sounding with vocal verses that toe the line between theatricality and earnestness before layers of distorted sound build in the background, eventually giving way to triumphant, full-band instrumentation and melodic oh-oh-ohs.

Frontman Elie Raymond explained in a statement that the song is about standing up to "the power given to someone put on a pedestal despite their continuous negative hold."

He also claims that "Beni Oui Oui" hears the band at their most carefree — which isn't to say there hasn't been careful consideration put into the crafting of the song. Originally written around a few simple chords, some studio time and the addition of lap steel and e-bow have transformed it into the celebratory song it is now.

You can hear it for yourself in the player below. Princess Flash is out on October 9 through Indica Records. Foreign Diplomats also have several Canadian dates coming up, and you can see all those here
