Daniel Lanois' forthcoming album Heavy Sun remains one of Exclaim!'s 29 Most Anticipated Canadian Albums of 2021, and the Hamilton-based polymath has shared another new song from the LP.
"Power" arrives today alongside an accompanying visualizer found below, not unlike the previously shared "Under the Heavy Sun."
In keeping with Lanois' goal of having Heavy Sun's songs be "a force for good," the gentle groove of "Power" buoys its chorus mantra: "people got the power."
Of his latest, Lanois offered, "I didn't think there was much to say about a song with such a simple message. But just yesterday I got a message from Eno asking me to sign a petition about injustices in Uganda. Apparently, a dictatorship operating under the guise of democracy. The clouds broke and the gods of reason spoke, 'No Time To Rest,' by Uganda or otherwise."
Lanois added of the visualizer, "Native mythology talks about the half bird half human, 'Thunderbird Woman'. She comes to show the way to balance. May we have the POWER to get there. Empowerment for Betterment."
Heavy Sun will arrive March 19 through Lanois' new Maker Series imprint.
