Montreal siblings Emilia Fart and Giselle Claudia Webber have announced their debut EP as Em & Dzeej. The self-titled effort arrives March 20 via Coax Records.
Engineered and co-produced by Mark Lawson, the EP is previewed today by lead single "Like Her Before," which is said to deal with the topic of intergenerational trauma.
"For those of us who have suffered from debilitating trauma, 'Like Her Before' is straight-up liberating," said the band. "This song empowers survivors of rape, abuse and childhood molestation, daring to take on the battle scars."
The track comes with its own Fart-directed, Brigitte Dajczer-shot music video. It was shot at La Fromagerie Folies Bergères, a sheep farm in St-Sixte, Quebec, in one take. You can watch it below.
There, you can also meet the band in an introductory video called "The truth about Em & Dzeej" that further delves into the inspiration behind the new song. The band note: "Trigger Warning — at 5:40 to 8:29 we talk directly and indirectly about abuse."
