The National's Matt Berninger and Menomena member Brent Knopf's first album as El Vy is titled Return to the Moon , but the band did something less familiar last night (September 30) by making their television debut. The track they tackled for the Conan crowd was the album's jumpy title track.
Surrounded by a backup band that included clap-happy backup singers and Wye Oak's Andy Stack, Berninger and Knopf bounced through the playful pop tune. Knopf, for his part, slashed at his guitar and played some piano, while Berninger swayed around and sang about voyages and the acquisition of a saltwater fish.
You'll find the performance below, while Return to the Moon hits stores October 30 via 4AD.
