Drummer Kurt Dahle Leaves the New Pornographers

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Sep 15, 2014

Vancouver indie rock mainstays the New Pornographers have had a big summer with the release of Brill Bruisers and a slew of live dates across North America, but they announced over the weekend that they'll be down a member going forward.

Longtime drummer Kurt Dahle has left the band. Dahle formerly played in Age of Electric and Limblifter, but had devoted most of his professional time to playing with the New Pornographers since their debut album Mass Romantic in 2000.

Dahle has also played with his New Pornographers colleagues on side-projects like Neko Case's The Worse Things Get, the Harder I Fight, the Harder I Fight, the More I Love You and, at times, Dan Bejar's releases as Destroyer.

The band posted the announcement of Dahle's departure from the New Pornographers via Facebook with a message that reads:

Kurt Dahle is leaving the New Pornographers. It has been a great 15 years playing with an amazing drummer, singer and performer. We wish him the best.

Everything is still full steam ahead with the band and we look forward to continued rocking and singing of songs.

Dahle was behind the drum kit at the band's recent Riot Fest show in Toronto, which was apparently also his last with the band. You can see the group's upcoming live shows below and read a history of the band in our recent Exclaim! Timeline.
