Epic shredheads DragonForce are set to deliver new studio album Extreme Power Metal next month, and ahead of touring behind the effort later this year, the band have announced a lineup change.
YouTube musician/comedian Steve Terreberry (a.k.a Stevie T) will join the band on the North American leg of their upcoming world tour, handling bass guitar and triangle duties. Yes, you read that correctly — he will play the triangle.
As DragonForce explained, Terreberry's involvement with the group comes after guitarist Herman Li jokingly invited the YouTuber to play the instrument on tour with them this summer. In May, Terreberry responded in a video through his channel, accepting the tour offer and ripping off an extended triangle solo on the band's beloved burner "Through the Fire and Flames." You can find that below.
"I was deeply moved when I saw Stevie T's technical precision and finesse on the triangle and immediately invited him to join the tour. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the greatest triangle player ever to grace this earth," Li said in a statement.
News of Terreberry joining the band coincides with the departure of longtime bassist Frédéric Leclercq, whose playing was first featured on the band's 2006 LP Inhuman Rampage. Leclercq's last show with DragonForce will be this weekend at Elb-Riot in Hamburg, Germany.
"We want to thank Fred for all the musical contributions and good times over the years," Li said. "As sad as we are to lose him, we are excited that he is going to continue playing the music he loves. He will always be a friend and a member of the DragonForce family."
Terreberry and his new DragonForce bandmates will kick off their North American tour on October 1 in Tucson, Arizona. A lone Canadian stop will bring them to Vancouver's Red Room on October 7, with support set to come from Dance With the Dead and Starkill. You can find the band's North American itinerary below.
Extreme Power Metal arrives September 27, and follows DragonForce's 2017 LP Reaching Into Infinity.
