Break out the trampolines and air guitars, because power metal torchbearers DragonForce have announced their next LP, Maximum Overload, is on its way this summer.
Press materials confirm that this next platter hits retailers August 19 in North America through Metal Blade, and a day earlier overseas through Ear Music. This will be the first album from the band since 2011's The Power Within and sixth overall.
The record was tracked at Fascination Studios in Örebro, Sweden, and in Varberg, Sweden, with Jens Bogren, marking the first time DragonForce have ever used an outside producer.
"Working with Jens gave us a different perspective on the songs and a different sound dynamic," guitarist Herman Li said in statement, explaining further: "We always previously recorded in our own studios but recording in Sweden made us focus and maybe drove us harder, Jens certainly did, he doesn't believe in days off!"
The band's patented guitar histrionics will no doubt be a big part of the LP, but there are guest appearances from Trivium's Matt Heafy on a few tracks as well. You can sample a demo of one of the fretboard blazers, "Defenders," down below.
In addition to the originals, the album also features a cover version of Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire."
The band's Sam Totman explained of the redo: "Just before the last Australian tour our manager suggested it might be interesting to do a cover for the next album, something we've always refused even to consider. Because we had all had a couple beers every band member wrote down three songs each and we compared them all, just for a laugh. I wrote down 'Ring of Fire' by Johnny Cash, an idea which the rest of the band loved, so we've DragonForce-ized it."
While a tracklisting has yet to be delivered, the album is expected to appear as a standard CD, a special edition CD packaged with five bonus tracks and a DVD, digitally, and on vinyl.
