It All Glows EP

Despite claiming "the experience of becoming an honourary human being" as its inspiration, Delta Will's fine second EP, It All Glows, sounds more like the work of a very talented young musician inspired by a great record collection who is still figuring out his own musical identity.

The title track, with its insistent guitar riff and slapped beats, offers a brighter take on Timber Timbre's haunting blend of folk, blues and pop (producer Chris Stringer also worked on that group's self-titled 2009 album). From there, the EP quickly takes a left turn with the anthemic post-OK Computer indie rock of "While We're Here (It Won't Last)," its masterful use of dynamics aided by Lowell Whitty's superb drumming. Following a brief, lilting instrumental only slightly marred by somewhat dated drum loops, It All Glows closes with the hushed "Holy Ghost," on which Delta Will's reverb-soaked vocals and gentle harmonies echo both My Morning Jacket and Fleet Foxes.

You won't find anything new or revolutionary in these four songs, but there is enough promise here to mark Delta Will as someone to watch.
