Dear Criminals are gearing up to release their fourth EP later this month, but before it officially arrives, Exclaim! has got the premiere of a brand new track called "Slowdisco."
The Montreal-based band describe their sound as a mix of "electro-porn" and "haunted-folk," and their sound is as intriguing as their choice of genre labels. Bringing together Frannie Holder, Charles Lavoie and Vincent Legault, the three-piece crafts pieces that are minimalist but far from simple.
"Slowdisco" opens with a bleep-bloop beat courtesy of Legault, which slowly swells to complement the harmonious vocal interplay of Lavoie and Holder. Mixing digital noise with authentic, organic-sounding vocals, the track is a perfectly controlled storm of juxtapositions.
Dear Criminals will be playing in Toronto tonight (May 8) at the Silver Dollar, as part of Canadian Music Week, and their latest EP will be available on May 19. For now, though, give "Slowdisco" a spin in the player below.
